Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of financial advisory services does Paragon Capital Management offer?
Paragon is a fee-only, fiduciary financial advisory firm based in Denver, serving high-net-worth families, executives, retirees, and business owners. We provide comprehensive financial planning, investment management, retirement planning, and real-estate investment advisory services aligned with your long-term goals.
What does “fee-only fiduciary” mean?
We’re compensated solely by clients — not commissions on products. This aligns our incentives with yours: your success comes first, always. We act as fiduciaries, meaning we’re legally obligated to put your best interests ahead of our own.
How is Paragon different from other financial advisors?
Paragon takes a deeply personalized approach — we build custom plans and portfolios tailored to your goals, risk tolerance, tax situation, and cash-flow needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. Our advisors are also owners of the firm, which means we’re invested in every client relationship long term.
How much does a fee-only financial advisor cost?

Fees vary by firm and asset level. At Paragon Capital Management, our advisory fees are tiered, starting at 0.90% on the first $1 million, with a $7,000 annual minimum.

Our advisory relationship includes both comprehensive financial planning and ongoing investment management.

What is your minimum fee?

We maintain a minimum advisory fee of $1,750 per quarter ($7,000 annually).

If the calculated percentage-based fee is less than $7,000 per year, the minimum applies. Once assets exceed approximately $780,000, fees typically follow the tiered percentage schedule.

Do you charge separate financial planning fees?

No. Financial planning and investment management are integrated into one advisory relationship.

Every client receives:

  • Retirement planning
  • Tax strategy
  • Estate planning coordination
  • Ongoing investment management
  • Proactive advisor access

We believe planning and investment decisions work best when they are not separated.

Is there an asset minimum to work with Paragon?

We do not publish a strict asset minimum. However, we maintain a $7,000 annual advisory minimum to ensure we can provide the level of planning and proactive service our clients expect.

Most of our clients have $1 million or more in investable assets with an average of $5 million.

How does Paragon manage investments?

We believe successful investing is less about chasing the highest possible return and more about compounding capital prudently over decades. Our goal is to help clients avoid large permanent losses while still participating meaningfully in long-term growth. We build thoughtful, long-term portfolios designed around your goals, risk tolerance, and the risk capacity of your overall financial plan.

Our philosophy is disciplined and conservative in nature. We focus on:

  • High-quality, value-oriented global equities rather than speculative or trend-driven investments
  • High-quality fixed income designed to provide stability and lower correlation to stocks
  • Strategic diversification across asset classes and geographies
  • We aim to grow wealth steadily while managing risk — particularly during volatile markets.

Alternative Investments (When Appropriate)
For certain clients, we also incorporate carefully selected alternative investments to enhance diversification and improve return potential. These may include:

  • Private equity and private credit
  • Investments with return streams less dependent on public markets, such as:
    • Insurance-linked securities tied to storms or earthquakes
    • Life settlement funds based on actuarial life expectancy

These allocations are never used for speculation — they are implemented thoughtfully to reduce reliance on traditional stock and bond markets.

Thoughtful Cash Management
Even cash plays a strategic role in a portfolio. We actively manage cash allocations to seek competitive yields while preserving liquidity and safety. Idle cash is rarely optimal — and we work to ensure every portion of your balance sheet is aligned with your plan.

Do you help with retirement planning?

Yes. We help individuals and couples create retirement income strategies that balance spending goals, tax optimization, Social Security strategies, and longevity risk — so you can feel confident in your financial future.

Can you help with real estate investing as part of my financial plan?

Absolutely. Our team offers guidance on evaluating real estate investments, optimizing rental cash flow, tax strategies, and integrating real estate into your broader wealth plan.

Who will I work with at Paragon?

Every Paragon client works directly with an experienced advisor — all of whom are credentialed and also firm partners. You’ll receive personalized service backed by decades of experience.

What’s the process for getting started?

We begin with a discovery conversation to understand your financial goals and priorities, followed by a tailored planning and investment strategy designed around what matters most to you.

How are your fees structured?

We charge a graduated percentage of assets under management (AUM) for ongoing investment management and comprehensive financial planning:

  • 0.90% on the first $1 million
  • 0.70% on assets from $1–5 million
  • 0.50% on assets from $5–10 million
  • 0.35% on assets above $10 million

We also have a minimum fee of $1,750 per quarter ($7,000 annually).

For clients with smaller portfolios, the minimum fee applies. For clients above approximately $777,777, the percentage-based fee will exceed the minimum.

Our fee includes both investment management and comprehensive financial planning. We do not accept commissions or sell products.

What is a high-net-worth investor?

A high-net-worth investor generally refers to someone with substantial investable assets of at least $1 million and complex planning needs. We specialize in working with these individuals and families to build, preserve, and transition wealth effectively.

Do you offer virtual meetings or only in-person?

Yes — we work with clients both virtually and in person.

Many of our clients have ties to Denver, Colorado, but have since moved across the country and continue to work with us. We regularly meet via Zoom or Microsoft Teams and have built strong long-term relationships through virtual communication.

That said, we believe meaningful relationships benefit from periodic face-to-face interaction. For clients with larger advisory relationships (generally $15,000+ in annual fees), our advisors travel as appropriate to meet in person.

Our approach combines the convenience of modern technology with the depth and trust that come from a true long-term partnership.

How often will I hear from my advisor?

We believe in proactive communication — regular check-ins, quarterly reviews, and updates as markets or personal circumstances change.
